How Important is Honesty, Really?

Today I’m opening up the vault to a segment from the Brand Is Gravity workshop I released for sale last year. It is the section on ‘honesty.’ When building a brand, the concept of ‘honesty’ is the foundation of any authentic brand. Make no mistake, the truth always comes out. 

Honesty in relationships is about being straightforward with the other person about what you think, believe, and intend. It’s the same in branding. When you pair that honesty with a deep understanding of who you would like to do business with (empathy), you are in a prime position to make a deep connection. Connection is what branding and marketing is ALL about. That’s why I call my marketing agency Congruent: a “connection agency”.

I get into a fun case study of how Volkswagen specifically leveraged “honesty” about their tiny little car, The Beetle, when they released it over half a century ago. Honesty worked then, and it works now! 

Here’s my honesty: I get excited when the people around me get perspective on the next steps they need to take…CLARITY.
